Whatever stage you are at in your journey as a CYP counsellor, clinical supervision can nurture your professional development, enrich your practice and empower you in your role, be that private practice, school-based, agency or other area.
Clinical supervision is something I love. I have been fortunate to have - and continue to have - some excellent clinical supervisors. They have kept me going through the myriad criteria I had to wade through in my various trainings, have held me up when I have had a challenging situation with a client, and have cheered me when I have achieved something. To be at the stage where I have the chance to offer this experience to other CYP counsellors feels both exciting and a challenge!
I am a highly experienced CYP (and adult) counsellor having worked and trained in various settings, including primary and secondary schools and colleges, clinics and independent practices. I currently manage and run a counselling service in a school and I am also a trained DSL so can guide and support you with any safeguarding queries or concerns. My training has been integrative, studying psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, person-centred, CBT, systemic and creative. I have also done post-registration training in short-term solution focused therapy.
I have done additional training in parent-child therapy, animal assisted play therapy, Lego therapy and working with autistic children, particularly girls. I love working in nature too and offer walk and talk therapy and have undergone specialist training for this. I am a breathwork coach and a meditation tutor.
My way of working as a supervisor is collaborative and with warmth and understanding. My ultimate aim is to support you as a practitioner and to nurture your growth. The model of supervision I use is the Hawkins and Shohet 7-eyed Model which looks at your work from various different angles, alongside the Integrative Developmental Model. I find this approach helps gain a good understanding of where the client is, where you are and where we are in the supervisor-supervisee relationship. As a lot of work with children is creative/play based, I am more than happy to bring creativity into our sessions and can do so either in-person or online. I can also provide walk and talk supervision to those local to me.
There may be times where supervision brings up anxiety and that can only be natural, especially if there is something you are unsure about or maybe the old imposter syndrome is kicking in. Rest assured, whatever you bring will be viewed compassionately.
Like finding the right counsellor, finding the right clinical supervisor can seem a little daunting to begin with so how exactly do you go about finding the supervisor you think you need? Maybe looking at your values as a person and as a counsellor would be a good place to start. You will likely need someone who shares your theoretical orientation; maybe they will also have skills in areas you would like to move into such as Walk and Talk Therapy, neurodivergence, trauma. I offer a free 15 minute phone or zoom call to make sure you feel I am the right supervisor for you. Please use the contact me button on this page or email supervision@mindfulmomentscounselling.co.uk
Note: as I am completing the clinical hours of supervision training (having finished the theoretical side), I can offer supervision for £15/session online or £25/session face-to-face for both trainee and qualified practitioners. This price point will be revised once my qualification is through and current supervises will be given notice prior to any changes.
